One year ago, Moe Acee enlisted the assistance of his wife, Sophie, to draft a solicitation letter seeking funds for a project that was near and dear to his heart: A Monument honoring the Clark Mills citizens who died in combat, serving their country.
The initial goal was to raise $6,700, the estimated cost for the purchase and installation of the foundation and engraved stone. The response from the members and friends of the Clark Mills Historical Society was overwhelmingly generous, with over $17,000 received in donations!
The additional funds were used to enhance the site at the Clark Mills American Legion with stamped concrete and decorative lighting and the balance will be used for the care & maintenance of the monument, as recommended by Mohawk Valley Monuments.
The Memorial was dedicated at a deeply moving ceremony, honoring our Clark Mills fallen heroes on October 5, 2024. The Legion hosted the event and the Legion Auxiliary served a delicious lunch to the masses. The weather was gorgeous, the crowd was huge and the feeling of pride in the Clark Mills Community was immense.
Many thanks to Moe (& Sophie), the Monument Committee, the American Legion, the Sons of the American Legion and Auxiliary members and Assemblyman Brian Miller for making the Monument and Dedication Ceremony a fitting tribute.
